Wine
Wine has accompanied mankind since time out of mind. This magnificent, delicious, low-alcoholic beverage has a long and rich history, which dates back to ancient times - even in Babylon and ancient Egypt we can find mentions of wine. Evidence of the existence of wine has been found in the tombs of the pharaohs as well as in papyrus scrolls. The vine was brought from Egypt to Syria, Babylon then to China, Palestine and Greece, from where the cultivation of the vine was widespread throughout the area. Drinking wine has been a great part of Greek culture.
The Greek God of wine Dionysus was believed to be the founder of viticulture, about whom the many legends arose. In the beginning, wine was considered as a sacred and healing drink, later it has become quite a common drink.
Wine has gone a long way in the development of vine breeding, the emergence of new wine varieties, the development of wine technologies and methods of serving. Currently we recognize more than three thousands of wine varieties and the new ones are bred every year. The cultivation of vines probably came to our territory at the beginning of the first millennium, when our territory was under the influence of the Roman Empire.
Nowadays, Slovakia has approximately 16 000 ha of vineyards, where the most cultivated variety is Grüner Veltliner. Typical varieties are Welschriesling, St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch, Muscat and Müller Thurgau. Among newly bred popular Slovak varieties belong for example Devín, Dunaj, Hron, Váh, Rimava, Rudava, of which we can be honestly proud.
Every good winemaker would confirm: ,,Wine is not made in the cellar, but in the vineyard". This means that it is crucial to pay attention to the quality of the grapes. However, there are also other important factors that influence the overall taste, for example if the concrete grape variety was planted on a suitable soil and in a suitable region. Furthermore, the quality depends on the age and vineyards quality, the yield per hectare, right harvesting and last but not least the weather in a given year. Majority of the top winemakers believe that the good work in the vineyards is more than half the success.
In terms of gastronomy, wine and food belong to each other. A company of wine and friends fortifies the feeling of happiness, relax and overall comfort. Each meal requires different type of wine. Wine paired with meals should be mostly dry either it is white wine or red wine. Served wine shouldn´t never be sour. If we serve more types of wines during eating we should always keep the rule that light wines come prior heavier ones, white prior the red wines. White and rosé wines taste the best when serving them as aperitifs to light appetizers. Sweet wines are suitable to desserts.
In our company we actively devote to distributing and selling wines more than 8 years. We closely collaborate with wineries, which have built great goodwill in Slovakia particularly by honest work and quality products. We constantly extend our offer by popular Slovak as well as foreign wineries. Besides still wines we offer wines that are sparkling, fortified, fruit and aromatised. We also included mead and Tokaj that are becoming still more popular.
As we tried to reach the greatest audience, we included wines that are not that traditional, such as ice wine and straw wine. Either you plan party, celebration or you want to taste a bottle of a good wine while dining, enjoying evening with candles, next to fireplace we believe that you will find your favourite at our e-shop.
At the conclusion we have some advices for you: Red wine is recommended to drink especially in the evening, because it calms the mind and body, dampens all bodily functions and promotes sleep. On the other hand, white wine stimulates and boosts the activity.
Even William Shakespeare claimed that wine enhances the ingenuity, function of the brain, fills it with lively, warm and playful thoughts. Drinking white wine in a little range accelerates brain blood flow so one can thank them for many inspirations. After all, it doesn't matter if the wine is white, rosé or red: one glass adds a relaxed, joyful mood and a sense of satisfaction.
